Case Study: Community Marketing
PCYC NSW
In 2004 the Twoshotmedia Creative Director, Monica, received Federal Government financing to train young and unemployed film students in Sydney’s South-West. The program was going well, the students had already made a short film, but they were hungry to try something more challenging.
To support the students’ local community, Monica contacted the Police and Community Youth Centre (PCYC) NSW head office, which was close to where they were training. She offered to create a professional-level marketing video for PCYC NSW, to help attract more kids to the Centres’ facilities. She could then use that process to upskill her students. Reg Woodhouse of PCYC NSW eagerly agreed!
Monica and the team took things slowly, as there was a lot of learning to do. Over a period of three months, Monica used a combination of the Twoshotmedia crew and the students to shoot in a variety of PCYC clubs. It was sometimes a delicate operation, as many of the kids we filmed were considered “at risk”, and we therefore had to be careful of how we approached them so as not to scare them off!
We were finally able to create a terrific marketing video, aimed squarely at teenagers, and PCYC were delighted. The students were happy too, and many of them were inspired to find work in the industry or continue with their training.
Reg Wooghouse of PCYC says: “The video… was a testament to Monica’s dedication. She traveled to many of our clubs around the state looking for the right footage and the right people to interview, to get what she needed to make the video what it was. Her friendly and professional nature made all the participants working with her, ranging form young people in the community, to Senior Sergeants, completely at ease, and enabled us to trust her judgment every step of the way.”
We are also happy to say that PCYC NSW remains a steady Twoshotmedia client!
